THE PROPERTY

The vineyard is located at the top of Saint-Émilion, where the limestone outcrops the most, thus inducing excellent drainage. This dominant limestone gives the wine an inimitable freshness, minerality and delicate tannins. The result is a strong identity dear to passionate amateurs who speak of a Clos Fourtet style.

The cru is being converted to biodynamics, and new mass selections have been undertaken under the aegis of Stéphane Derenoncourt. To top it off, a new vat room was inaugurated from the 2014 vintage.

WINE

La Closerie de Fourtet is the second wine of Clos Fourtet. This Saint-Emilion Grand Cru comes from a skilful blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The young vines of the estate flourish on an exceptional terroir. The plot, located at the gates of Saint-Emilion, is surrounded by high walls, remnants of the city’s fortification. Its soil is composed of limestone.
After the manual harvest, the grapes are sorted in the cellar. It is then put in vats for a month before the juice is aged for a year and a half, in 80% new barrels, in order to preserve all the intensity of the fruit and the expression of the terroir.
With its beautiful ruby color, this vintage offers aromas of cherry and sweet spices. Finely mentholated, the mouth is energetic, and supported by a persistent tannic structure.
This wine has an aging potential of ten years. It will be accompanied by noble meats, such as hare à la royale. Serve it at a temperature of 17 degrees.
