Dense and tender

Château Cheval Blanc 2019

900.00

Nestled on the outskirts of Saint-Émilion, bordering the territory of Pomerol, Château Cheval Blanc sprawls across 39 hectares, divided into forty-five parcels, each embodying a unique identity defined by specific soil, grape variety, and age of the vines. This distinctiveness shapes the complexity of Cheval Blanc’s wine. Retaining a layout nearly identical to that of 1871, Château Cheval Blanc now oversees an exceptional and unparalleled vineyard.

The cellar of Cheval Blanc, designed by Christian de Portzamparc and inaugurated in June 2011, rises like an elevation from the ground, accentuated by two waves of white concrete.

In 1954, during the inaugural classification of Saint-Émilion wines, Cheval Blanc achieved the highest distinction: the classification of Premier Grand Cru Classé “A.” This accolade has been reaffirmed every decade since, with excellence maintained from one classification to the next until 2021, when the property decided to withdraw from the classification.

The 2019 vintage is among the collection of exceptional vintages at Cheval Blanc. The year was marked by extreme weather events: heavy rainfall in spring, followed by a heatwave in July. However, exceptional summer and autumn conditions facilitated remarkable ripening, giving rise to a dazzling wine.

At first scent, aromatic complexity reveals refinement fostered by optimal climatic conditions. The significant proportion of Merlot brings forth a particularly intense red and black fruitiness. Notes of raspberries, cherries, blackberries, and blackcurrants emerge within a balsamic, pastry-like realm, subtly sweetening the experience. The palate is likewise influenced by the presence of Merlot, offering richness and a dominating smooth sensation. Cabernet Franc contributes to a refreshing mid-palate. It’s a dense, powerful wine, yet also tender, luscious, and creamy.
