THE PROPERTY

It was the great-great-grandfather, Henri Greloud, who purchased, in 1872, the small estate of 4.5 hectares of contiguous vineyards located in the Lafleur area on the Pomerol plateau. He renovated the vineyard, built the house and cellars, and gave this new Cru the historical name of the plot: Château Lafleur. With his ingenious and visionary idea, Henri probably envisioned the wines that would come to life here. In this “garden vineyard” of an almost perfect square, truly great vintages like 1947 and 1982 were born. In 1985, Sylvie and Jacques took over the reins of this legendary Cru. In 2002, they became the owners of Château Lafleur by purchasing it with their three children, Baptiste, Clara, and Noémie.

The vineyard stands out for its grape varieties, with an equal proportion of Bouchet (Cabernet Franc) and Merlot, which greatly contributes to the style of Château Lafleur. Baptiste and Julie joined Sylvie and Jacques in the early 2000s, sharing the family’s passion for every detail. Over the years, the team has become younger and more diverse. Today, around twenty people bring their enthusiasm to the service of the Crus of the Société Civile du Château Lafleur. As vignerons, they are present in the vineyards and cellars throughout the year, seeking to understand and best accompany nature and climate. Château Lafleur is a rare wine that uniquely combines power, length, and finesse.

THE WINE

Château Lafleur consists of 3.75 hectares, including 1.35 hectares of sandy-clay gravels, 1.45 hectares of clay gravels, and 0.95 hectares of gravelly sands. The vineyards are managed using sustainable farming practices. The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo a double sorting process in the vineyard and again at the winery. The vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks with gentle maceration and careful extraction of tannins. The wine is aged for 15 months in barrels, with one-quarter being new barrels and three-quarters being barrels aged for 9 months.
