Domaine Jeantet-Laurent “Les Echalas à Jo” 2015
Micro cuvée of 2000 bottles only for a pure expression of Syrah Rhodanienne, spicy and fresh.
This cuvée, produced in less than 2000 bottles, comes from the assembly of plots (in integrated cultivation) presenting and providing a great diversity. The Syrah vines (100%), facing south-east on the hillsides, are supported by stakes. The grapes harvested are partially destemmed, then vinified separately. The aging is then carried out with discernment in barrels (without filtration or fining) in order to showcase the richness possessed by Saint-Joseph (northern Côtes-du-Rhône).
Formerly known as “Vin de Mauves” from the name of the small town of the same name, “luck” has it that the etymology of Mauves derives from the Latin Malva meaning mauve color which also characterizes the wine produced in situ. The current name of the appellation comes from a hillside that belonged to and was cultivated by the Jesuits of Tournon who, from the outset, baptized the Saint-Joseph vineyard in the 17th century.
The vineyard is the link between: the Côte-Rôtie in the north with a soil of soft gneiss and granite, and Cornas in the south with complex, lean and acid granites.
